
The old battery has to unsoldered and the new battery has to be soldered to the PCB battery board. If you feel uncomfortable attempting this procedure, we can perform this service for you. The total charge would be $24 which includes price of the new battery $12, $8 labor fee and $4 shipping charges.
Replacing the Backup Battery. This appendix describes the procedure used to replace the CMOS backup battery. This battery allows the CMOS memory to store the computer's configuration information. Warning: Lithium batteries can be dangerous. Improper handling or installation of lithium batteries may result in an explosion. Replace them only with an exact replacement. Dispose of lithium batteries by returning them to your dealer. Read the entire procedure before starting. If you do not understand any part of this procedure, or feel uncomfortable attempting this procedure, contact your authorized service representative for assistance. Caution: Disconnecting the backup battery will cause the loss of all configuration information. Run the SETUP program and record all configuration settings before you start this procedure. To replace the memory backup battery:
1. Power off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord.
2. Disconnect all peripheral devices
3. Lift the lid until it is fully open.
4. Loosen the keyboard by pressing the two small clips near the bottom of the keyboard with a small flat-bladed screwdriver. Press the right clip first, then the left clip The keyboard pops up. Refer to the memory and Peripheral Add-Ons chapter for more information on accessing the expansion area.
5. Do not disconnect the wires between the keyboard and the circuit boards.
6. Tilt the front of the keyboard up toward the video display.
7. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, gently pry the backup battery printed circuit board free of the mainboard.
7a. Replace the battery.
8. Plug the connector on the new battery pack into the socket on the mainboard.
9. Replace the keyboard. Slide the back of the keyboard into the slots in the computer. Press the front of the keyboard at the clips until they snap, holding the keyboard in place.
10. Power on the computer and access the BIOS SETUP. Re-enter your configuration information.
